Nueva York, 5 de mayo (EFE).- El juez federal Brian Cogan, que condenó al mexicano Joaquín Guzmán Loera, conocido como el Chapo, rechazó este lunes su petición de ser extraditado de Estados Unidos a México, así como otras solicitudes relacionadas con su sentencia.
El 23 de abril, Guzmán, antiguo líder del Cartel de Sinaloa, detalló en una carta escrita a mano en inglés y publicada este lunes por el tribunal del Distrito Este de Nueva York que está «luchando por una extradición a México».
«Solicito ante los tribunales de distrito que se respeten mis derechos a solicitar mi extradición y pedir modificaciones respecto a la violación de mi sentencia, en aras de la equidad en la legislación federal», escribió.
En otra carta datada de este lunes, también redactada a mano y en inglés, Guzmán pidió a la corte los documentos presentados por el Gobierno de EE.UU. en su caso, ya que, según él, «no demostraron la justificación de mi cruel castigo en los tribunales de distrito de Brooklyn».
Sin embargo, el juez Cogan consideró que «algunos de estos documentos carecen de sentido y ninguno de ellos tiene validez jurídica. Por lo tanto, todos ellos son desestimados».
Considera que no tuvo un juicio justo
Del mismo modo, el narco solicitó su expediente judicial «para comprobar cómo el jurado llegó a una decisión errónea que vulneró el proceso de deliberación del tribunal».
«El veredicto de mi juicio no fue justo con mi política exterior, ya que no se me dio la oportunidad de desestimar mi caso al no presentarse pruebas contundentes para mi puesta en libertad», subrayó.
Además, recalcó que lleva más de tres años «luchando» para que la corte acepte un recurso de apelación y se celebre un nuevo juicio en su caso.
‘El Chapo’ fue declarado culpable, en 2019, por un jurado popular de diez delitos de narcotráfico en un proceso que duró casi cuatro meses y que pasó a la historia como el mayor juicio por narcotráfico llevado a cabo en EE.UU.
En concreto, el jurado consideró culpable al narcotraficante de los delitos de liderazgo y mantenimiento de una empresa criminal continua, tráfico internacional de drogas, uso de armas de fuego y blanqueo de dinero procedente de la venta de narcóticos.
En otra carta publicada el 17 de abril, Guzmán, que permanece recluido en una prisión de máxima seguridad en Colorado, ya pidió al tribunal «una cláusula de extradición» para regresar a México, y acusó al juez del caso, Brian Cogan, «de abusar de la política judicial» y basarse en pruebas «inexactas».
