Santo Domingo, 23 jul.- La selección de Colombia derrotó hoy con autoridad 30-5 a la anfitriona República Dominicana en el polo acuático (m) de los XXV Juegos Centroamericanos y del Caribe Santo Domingo 2026, y asumió el liderato provisional del Grupo A.
El conjunto dominó de principio a fin el encuentro, disputado en el Complejo Acuático del Centro Olímpico Juan Pablo Duarte, con parciales de 6-1, 8-1, 8-3 y 8-0, para sumar su segunda victoria consecutiva en el certamen.
Con marca de 2-0, Colombia encabeza momentáneamente la llave A, mientras República Dominicana quedó con balance de 0-2 tras sufrir su segundo revés.
Juan Vallejo fue el máximo anotador del encuentro con seis goles en igual número de intentos. También sobresalieron Alejandro Saldarriaga, con cinco tantos; Carlos
Sánchez, con cuatro, y Juan Zuluaga, Santiago Cuervo y Felipe Mora, con tres cada uno.
Por los anfitriones, Federico Ciuffa marcó dos goles, mientras Francis Cordero, Jhon Burke y David Cabrera aportaron uno per cápita.
VENEZUELA CONSIGUE PRIMERA VICTORIA
En otro partido del Grupo A, Venezuela consiguió su primera victoria al superar a Costa Rica por 23-18, resultado que mantiene abiertas las aspiraciones de ambos equipos de avanzar a las semifinales.
Mientras, en acciones del Grupo B, Puerto Rico no tuvo dificultades para imponerse 29-4 a Guatemala y estrenó su casillero de triunfos con una sólida actuación ofensiva.
El torneo masculino reúne a ocho selecciones distribuidas en dos grupos de cuatro equipos. Los dos primeros de cada llave avanzarán a las semifinales mediante cruces, cuyos ganadores disputarán la medalla de oro.
